Her father, Reverend Clarence LaVaugh Franklin lived in Shelby Mississippi and preached while living the life of a sharecropper. As soon as he had enough money, he would move to Memphis, Tennessee to become a pastor of two churches. After a couple of years he attended LeMoyne College, and he studied Education and English Literature. With his education he was able to bring a more liberal view to his preaching’s. Smallpox was one of the most know disease he brought to America. The Native Americans had never been exposed to these types of diseases and millions of them died from it. The diseases would kill the entire families and villages and cause of that Native American tribes and cultures were damaged. By celebrating Columbus Day we are celebrating the damage he produced to Native Americans. Secondly, most people think that by celebrating Columbus Day we are celebrating the discovery of America, which is not true. Jimi Hendrix A legend was born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle with the conception of James Allen Hendrix. He was a true American of Black, White and Cherokee blood. As a child, James who later changed his name to Jimi, was very shy and was introverted to friends and family. He grew up in different homes that ranged from city life to living on the Cherokee reservation with his grandmother. With all of the difficulties that he struggled with in his early life he found refuge in music. His father bought him a guitar at the age of 13 and his love for music had begun. He grew up he listening to the music of the 40's and 50's and became well aquatinted with the sounds of other eras preserved in his father's record collection. There was a great influence of blues as well of R&B music that influenced his style and play. He spent what free time he had on the guitar and dropped out of school in 1959 so he would be able to further pursue his dreams. After he dropped out he enlisted in the army and! spent t his time trying to figure out who he really was. He followed his dreams and after his discharge from the army he became a musician. For the next ten years Hendrix played with a countless number of bands on the way to his notoriety. His greatest success occurred when he formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 66'. With this he exposed to America who he was and what he stood for. During his reign he confidently rose to success with powerful and inspiring music. He was, "a prolific and profligate creator who left almost everyone who heard or saw him with the distinct impression that the heartcenter of his work remained tantalizingly out of reach."1 Jimi Hendrix remains an enigma, an innovator that remains unparalleled in what he brought... ... believed was right. He knew no other way, but maintained his integrity. "A musician, if he's a messenger, is like a child who hasn't been handled too many times by man, hasn't had too many fingerprints across his brain. That's why music is so much heavier than anything you've ever felt."7 As stated by Hendrix in 69'. In life, Hendrix wanted the same thing as everyone else. There was one issue effecting the nation throughout their time in power — slavery. They were all successful in keeping peace in America by forging a series of compromises. Southerners recognized that California would be the 16th free state, giving the non-slave holding states the Senate, and they were already holding the House of Representatives. At this time, Texas was claiming land in New Mexico. As a slave state, any expansion of the boundaries of Texas would be expanding slavery. Northerner s were opposed. The north was also appalled at the ongoing practice of slavery in the nation's capital. The lines were drawn as Clay, Calhoun and Webster took the stage. Henry Clay had brokered compromises before.When the Congress was divided in 1820 over the issue of slavery in the Louisiana Territory, Clay set forth the Missouri Compromise. When South Carolina nullified the tariff in 1832, Clay saved the day with the Compromise Tariff of 1833. With the new dispute in the nation he put forth a set of eight proposals that he hoped would work. John C. Calhoun took to the floor next. Although he was sick and dying he sat in the Senate chamber as his speech was read. The compromises would betray the south, he claimed. Northerners would have to agree to federal protection of slavery for the south to feel comfortable remaining in the Union.His words foreshadowed the trials the Union that would soon experience.. Daniel Webster spoke three days after Calhoun's speech. He asked northerners to accept southern demands for the sake of Union. Withdrawing his former support for the Wilmont Proviso, he hoped to persuade people to move closer to Clay's proposals. This is exactly what dysfunctional families’ lack, whether parents are controlling, deficient, alcoholic or abusive, they have an adverse, long term effect on the children even long after they have grown up and left home. Many of these adults from dysfunctional families often feel inadequate and incomplete.They have difficulty with intimate relationships and often develop compulsive behaviors and addictions, being self-destructive in their own mind. Let us consider a family that is too controlling, where parents are over dominating and do not allow their children simple fun and deny them of their independence. These parents continue to make decisions and control their children even at an age where it is unnecessary. So growing up and learning to be independent can be difficult, a feeling of anger and resentment may present itself.Transition into adulthood poses some struggle to these adults who often feel unsure of themselves and guilty because they feel as though they are disobeying their parents by making their own decisions. Let us take a look at the other extreme where parents are deficient in their roles and are not present in the rearing of their children. These parents leave their children to often fend for themselves which forces them to grow up too fast. Taking on adult responsibilities to make up for the parental inadequacy, these kids ignore their feelings and often grow up not knowing how to show emotion.They find it difficult to form and maintain intimate relationships, they fear getting close to others for fear of abandonment. Chinese culture takes a very hierarchical structure of social life, cultivation of morality and self-restraint, and the emphasis on hard work and achievement (Fogel, 2010).  With each country, place or group, these elements change which results in a variation or difference in social culture. However as time goes by, whether through external factors or driven by necessities of survival, these values, beliefs and ethics will evolve which will result in a change within the social culture. Busin ess and economic implications of differences in culture and values How business and economics function is different in every place. Differences in culture and values are one of the primary reasons behind this simple fact. What is considered acceptable in one country is not acceptable in another (most stated example, bribes). Economic policies are driven by culture and values while business conduct is governed by cultural norms and common practices found within the group. At times the difference in culture and values can become a barrier to conducting business. International business and trade is similar to dancing a very carefully choreographed dance except that one dance is interpreted different in each country. A failure to adhere to the steps in that dance in a given country could be the difference between a disastrous business venture and a successful entry into an international market. Culture and values drive the principals and influence the manner in which business is conduct ed and economics are established. Social culture’s influence on work place values Social culture will define what is considered acceptable and appropriate at a work place. It will shape the policy at work and define the roll of given individuals and importance of their place amongst the ranks, as well as guidelines for conducting business. Given the hierarchical nature of Chinese culture, the rank of an individual employee plays a very important role within the organization (Fogel, 2010).  Social culture and aspects of social life norms will also influence how business is conducted on the domestic and international stage. The principal of Guanxi – concept of drawing on connections – is an important aspect of Chinese culture. It’s based on the principal of creating a personal network on the basis of favors, associations (belonging to the same trade association or group) and other social connections (same city of origin, close association through years of working together). At times companies have been unable to conduct business with some form of guanxi. Luo (2007, p 7) talks about how cosmetics manufacturer Avon, initially, unable to convince the Chinese government about the viability of its direct marketing method, requested the assistance of Hong Kong’s Bank of East Asia director David Li. Li is known for having a very well known and influential guanxi with ties into the central Chinese government, which he used to assist Avon in establishing a communication link and push through a deal between Avon and
